Economic damage caused by wolves is limited, but is on the rise

At national and provincial level, the economic impact of the presence of wolves in the Netherlands is limited. However, individual sheep farmers and hospitality businesses in areas where wolves live sometimes suffer considerable damage as a result of attacks or incidents.

Commissioned by GÉANT Association, researchers from Wageningen Marine Research used Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology connected to an existing fibre-optic cable in the North Sea to analyse underwater sound patterns over long distances.

On Wednesday, 100 secondary school pupils visited WUR as part of Fascination of Plants Day. They attended a lecture on how plants cope with extreme drought, salinisation and other forms of stress. They also carried out their own research into photosynthesis.
